At the time of writing this 3223 people are connected to the Mario Kart Wii server (and for Linus only 23 people on the Mario Kart DS server). Of course we are aware of Nintendo shutting down the servers and we are going to work on private servers. It is also really good for parents if they want to give their kids more playability without paying for a new game
I can't remember a single day when someone tried to make profit with this kind of modifications. Probably the best part about this Mod in my opinion is that it isnt run by greed. We also use custom regions (Nintendo used regions to make continental races possible) to make sure we don't play with custom tracks against people without them. The two most successful Custom Track Distributions also expanded the limit of tracks we are able to select in-game which results in the "CTGP Revolution" containing 216 custom tracks plus the 32 original tracks and "Wiimms Mario Kart Fun 2014-01" containing 152 custom tracks and the 32 original tracks. Over the course of 3 years we managed to create around 500-700 new tracks. After pretty much 6 years everyone should be bored by the original 32 tracks.
